Mission St. Paul History

Mission St.‭ ‬Paul is a cooperative kingdom initiative to see city-wide transformation in St.‭ ‬Paul as the whole church brings the whole gospel to the whole city.‭  ‬This is a relational,‭ ‬intentional,‭ ‬organic movement that has been birthed out of a pastors‭’ ‬prayer gathering that has been meeting weekly in the heart of St.‭ ‬Paul for over‭ ‬15‭ ‬years.

In October,‭ ‬2008‭ ‬Phase‭ ‬1‭ ‬of Mission St.‭ ‬Paul,‭ ‬Exploring the Land,‭ ‬was officially launched.‭  ‬Over the course of the next two years there was a monthly prayer gathering in each of the‭ ‬17‭ ‬neighborhoods of St.‭ ‬Paul.‭  ‬These gatherings were for the purpose of discerning the spiritual and practical challenges in each neighborhood as well as discovering where God was already at work.‭  ‬Through united,‭ ‬passionate,‭ ‬persevering,‭ ‬expectant prayer we believe the spiritual‭ ‬atmosphere of our city has begun to change,‭ ‬evidenced by the launching of‭ ‬12‭ ‬new church plants in St.‭ ‬Paul in‭ ‬2009-2010.,‭ ‬with several more churches subsequently being planted this year in the city.

We celebrated the completion of Phase‭ ‬1‭ ‬and launched Phase‭ ‬2‭ ‬of Mission St.‭ ‬Paul,‭ ‬Entering the Land,‭ ‬in October,‭ ‬2010.‭  ‬The focus of Phase‭ ‬2‭ ‬will be on the seven Council Wards in St.‭ ‬Paul.‭  ‬The purpose for focusing on these seven wards is twofold.‭  ‬One,‭ ‬our desire is to connect the‭ “‬kingdom force‭” ‬of pastors and ministry leaders in each ward with each other.‭  ‬By doing so we intend to create a network for strategic planning and partnerships.‭  ‬Second,‭ ‬our desire‭ ‬is to discover and dialogue with key leaders in seven primary influence areas within the wards:‭  ‬government,‭ ‬marketplace,‭ ‬education,‭ ‬family‭ & ‬cultural kinship,‭ ‬arts‭ & ‬entertainment,‭ ‬media,‭ ‬and church‭ & ‬para-church ministries.

Over the course of the winter and spring of‭ ‬2010-2011‭ ‬we met monthly to pray in each ward consecutively.‭  ‬Starting in the fall of‭ ‬2011‭ ‬we will be spending at least a year focusing on each individual ward for the purpose of developing long-term,‭ ‬sustainable,‭ ‬collaborative kingdom partnerships.‭  ‬We are beginning with Ward‭ ‬1‭ ‬which lies in the heart of the city of St.‭ ‬Paul,‭ ‬encompassing the Summit University,‭ ‬Thomas Dale,‭ ‬and portions of the Union Park neighborhoods.‭  ‬Starting on the first Tuesday of October and on the first Tuesdays of subsequent months in‭ ‬2011‭ ‬and‭ ‬2012‭ ‬we will go into and pray in each of the‭ ‬14‭ ‬precincts of Ward‭ ‬1.‭  ‬This entire phase,‭ ‬encompassing all‭ ‬7‭ ‬wards and‭ ‬107‭ ‬precincts,‭ ‬will be an ongoing multi-year‭ (‬potentially at least a decade long‭) ‬process as we continue to engage this transformational process in greater breadth and depth.

Phase‭ ‬3‭ ‬of Mission St.‭ ‬Paul,‭ ‬Occupying the Land will commence sometime after the completion of Phase‭ ‬2.‭  ‬In this final phase our goal will be to secure what kingdom advancements have been made and pass the work on to subsequent generations of kingdom leaders.‭  ‬We desire that this type of relational,‭ ‬intentional,‭ ‬organic movement might also be a catalyst to birth kingdom initiatives in other communities across our state,‭ ‬region,‭ ‬and country.‭  ‬Our ultimate vision is that this initiative might continue to grow and expand until the whole church brings the whole gospel to the whole world and/or Christ returns.‭  ‬To Him be all the glory,‭ ‬both now and forevermore‭!
